Helmeted Guineafowl (7/8)

Numida meleagris  

I was counting the bird species I spotted during a quick walk down the Plenty River Trail and then along the Yarra River.

It was a real surprise to add this Helmeted Guineafowl to the list as I cut through Fairfield Park from the footbridge over the river.

Helmeted Guineafowls are now on the Australian Bird List (Christidis & Boles, 2008) but this particular bird I assume has been released from captivity. It is the first one I have seen in Victoria.
